Our History

In 1924, Anthony J. Thomas Sr., "Tony", immigrated to the United States with his family. Seven years later, at the age of fourteen, Tony dropped out of school and took odd jobs to support the family after his father became ill.

By 1946 he had saved enough money to open his own business, A. Thomas Meat Market. It was a small storefront meat market in the Haymarket district of Louisville, Kentucky.

A. Thomas Meat Market has grown into A. Thomas Foodservice, an 82,000 sq. ft., federally inspected, meat production and distribution facility. Now a third generation family owned company, A. Thomas Food Service operates with the same ethics, pride and self-imposed demand for product excellence and customer satisfaction that our reputation was built on.
